Hi, how are you?
Hi there I’m great, just on my way to France at the moment.
Which instruments do you play?
I am a singer and songwriter and I badly play the piano.. he he (just at home)
What made you decide to be a solo artist and not want to be in a band?
I started singing in a children choir when I was quite young and I played the piano. Now I have my own band and it is great.
Do you work with the same musicians when recording as you do when performing live?
Mostly, but on our latest cd that we recorded in Chicago we had some great musicians from the USA flying on the record and some wonderful Norwegians as well.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t yet heard you?
I would describe my music as a touch of rock with a hint of blues and country, but most of all me telling stories (singing) in front of a live audience.
What have you been up to recently?
Playing festivals in Norway and starting to get into new record material
What can your fans look forward to in the next 12 months?
Hopefully a new record !
Did you always want to be in a musician/singer when younger?
What music did you listen to while growing up?
Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Pink Floyd and many more and a lot of classical music (since I played the piano)
How long have you played your instruments?
Three or four years old.
What was your first music making experience?
I started late as a songwriter, needed a lot of confidence I guess, the first time I played my music to another person I nearly fainted, it was so scary.
What is your current equipment?
My voice..he he, PC, Qubase home studio, piano and a great cabin to compose in and off course my SM 58. The rest of the band and the studio have a bunch of gear....
Are you self-taught or did you have lessons?
I started out taking lessons in classical singing, but it was not my cup of tea, so after some years (smoking) I developed my crispy deep voice as it is today. Since I have lived a bit on this earth I also think I learned not to be afraid of what other people might think about me, and that has given me a lot of confidence.
If you had an unlimited equipment budget what would be on your shopping list?
Steinway Grand Piano and a butler... hi hi
Do you use the same equipment live as you do when in a studio?
Do you have a set routine when writing and recording or does it depend on each track and the inspiration?
It depends on the producer and me
Which software/recording process do you use?
The studios I work in has protools and qubase at home

Yea, starting in late summer 2010
How much involvement do you have with the arranging and production of the songs when recording?
A lot, on the last record my producer Byron House was a great listener of mine and the musician’s opinions.
Is the production side of things something you’d like to get involved more in the future, maybe working with other artists?
I have already done so in small scale, weary interesting.
Do you find the process of recording enjoyable and does it get easier the more you do?
I love it almost as well as I love being on stage performing.
Do you try to capture your ‘live’ sound on recordings or do you think that the ‘live’ sound and recorded sound should be different experiences for your fans?
On my last record I did not capture the live sound I guess hopefully on the next one will give it more “live” feeling to it

Do you write songs/tracks only about personal experiences?
Yes and no but I have a great lyricist in Wisconsin USA Anne S. Spencer, a lot of experience and an exciting woman.

It all depends on my mood, sometimes it’s easy and when it is hard I do something else for a while, like go for a ride in my 1946 Ford Coupe

Yes and MySpace, Facebook and my own. www.tinalie.com and some more I guess
Do you think such sites and the internet are good tools for independent and unsigned artists?
Yes I think that is a must
With all the various websites out there for independent and unsigned artists, is there still something that is missing from them that you think would benefit the lesser-known artists?
Maybe some more genera sites so the listener easier can navigate in the jungle out there
How do you relax?
Up in the high mountains of Norway where I have my cabin, when I am there I am completely calm, but it usually take a day or to get in that state of mind for me.
What's your best/worst experience at a gig?
Four bikers showed up in a pretty bad Mexican bar in the States many years a go, I was a little nervous but then I went to the ugliest looking boy and took beret off his head and gave him my hat and said to him “I have come all the way from Norway to perform for you so I’ll give you back your hat when you come back with more people. Off he went on his bike and half an hour later he came back with a lot of people and it turned into a blast
Do you get nervous before a gig- how do you calm down?
I get excited and can’t wait to get out there
What else do you do apart from being a singer/songwriter?
Besides being a mum, I garden and make food, paint and enjoy my old cars
