Hi Marti, how are you?
I”m doing great, thank you!
Which instruments do you play?
Don’t laugh... when I’m alone I play the harmonica!! LOL! One day I’ll have the courage to play it publicly!
What made you decide to be a solo artist and not want to be in a band?
Actually I have my own backing band called Tree Hause...they back me on local Top 40 gigs as well as festivals and such for my original material.
Do you work with the same musicians when recording as you do when performing live?
Yes, I work with the drummer who just happens to be my producer as well! It’s very convenient!
What have you been up to recently?
Well as an independant artist I’m always up to something!! My days are usually filled with promoting and marketing as well as writing new material and recording....
What can your fans look forward to in the next 12 months?
Lots of new material and since I love experimenting it will vary in genre and content....I think it’s good to challenge yourself and as an independent artist why not?? Who will say “No, you must stay in your box”??
Did you always want to be in a musician/singer when younger?
Yes, always...I started singing as a child so it’s in my blood..
What music did you listen to while growing up?
Lots od Classic Rock, some Soul, R&B and Disco!!
What was your first music making experience?
Wow, it was a while back..I started writing and was so nervous when I brought it to the producer..I thought he would laugh when he heard my ideas but he liked them and once I saw my ideas come to life it gave me more confidence.

Are you self-taught or did you have lessons?
Both....as a child I would imitate the female artists I heard on the radio so much so that I basically “taught” myself to sing. When I got older I took lessons for about a year to help me with breathing...
Do you have a set routine when writing and recording or does it depend on each track and the inspiration?
With me it’s inspiration and fooling around on the mic...and trying not to overthink anything...that usually ruins things.
Would you sign with a major record company?
Not sure...It would depend on the what they offer...I’m a bit of a control freak you know??
How much involvement do you have with the arranging and production of the songs when recording?
Actually quite a bit but sometimes I like to sit back and take direction and let the producer handle all production. And the results are great such as on the track “Secret Place”. I just showed up and did as I was told!
Is the production side of things something you’d like to get involved more in the future, maybe working with other artists?
Absolutley! I would love to write for other artists and hope to do so soon...but I must finish my project first! ;-)
Do you find the process of recording enjoyable and does it get easier the more you do?
I love recording! I used to fear it and have actually seen other singers have nervous breakdowns in the studio!! It’s really a mind game just like anything else and I’m glad I was able to overcome my anxieties about it.
Do you have any favourite tracks on your album?
Phunq The DJ is my favorite right now!
Do you find song writing easy or difficult?
Usually pretty easy and I’m fast...I write songs quickly so I don’t lose my inspiration.
How do you promote your music and get your music out to new fans?
Right now mostly internet like Facebook, Jango, Reverbnation etc....
Do you think such sites and the internet are good tools for independent and unsigned artists?
Yes but it’s not everything... you also need to get out and “press the flesh” so to speak...
How do you relax?
Working out, praying, reading...
What's your best/worst experience at a gig?
Worst would be basically just having to deal with other vocalists that want all the attention for themselves and trying to upstage you...also when they get drunk and high and embarrass themselves and me...
Do you get nervous before a gig- how do you calm down?
LOL! ONE glass of wine!!
Would you like to be a full time working musician or are you happy with things as they are?
Thankfully I am a full time working vocalist...I love it because I have extra time open to promote and do interviews!!
