Made A Promise

Hi, how are you?
I'm great, working more in more with my music, producing and writing new songs. I m also organizing open mic events here in Slovenia and is going great!

Which instruments do you play?
I play guitar and can play saxophone

What made you decide to be a solo artist and not want to be in a band?
For years I was looking for some artists to cooperate with, but then nothing really worked. Meanwhile I was producing and writing my own material and later on decided it was time for me to record an album. I've packed my bags and flew to London, where I knew the music world is far richer than in my country. During my staying (6 months) I've met loads of musicians and finally John Rigby, producer and bass player with whom I started working on some songs and later on agreed to make an album.

Do you work with the same musicians when recording as you do when performing live?
No, when performing live I work with only a few musicians as now we do only acoustic gigs, but the team will soon build up as I'm starting a band. We will perform all these songs live with the complete musical arrangements from the album.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t yet heard you?
It s electro pop. I t s very melodic and has electronic effects. The lyrics carry a strong message and are very much connected with spiritual thoughts about life and existence.
The sound is modern and it grooves!

What have you been up to recently?
I've been doing some acoustic gigs, promoting the album live and selling some records. I'm also touring around Slovenia with an acoustic event called Open microphone and preparing for the final bigger event which is going to be held in the capital.

What can your fans look forward to in the next 12 months?
Live gigs with the whole band and to new touring dates in European festivals and events. Soon after next year I 'll be probably ready for the issue of the next album, which is going to be even greater with a better sound and music ideas than this debut one.

Did you always want to be in a musician/singer when younger?
Well, yes, very soon after I've started playing guitar and composing my first songs (14 years old) the idea of being and becoming a musician came up my mind. Therefor I just kept on in that direction and continued writing and looking for a place where it would be possible to record. Then I started to apply for different music castings, and it didn’t work, then I continued on my own and came to record this great album in London!

What music did you listen to while growing up?
I've listened a lot to Percy Sledge, I'd say he was the main influence when I was a kid.. later on I started to listen to the popular music on the radios (Prince, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner…later on the R.E.M., …Radiohead)

How long have you been involved with writing & performing music?
I wrote my first songs when I was about 14 years old, and kept this hobby from then on. The first songs were very basic but included also a guitar and there was already a chorus and verse distinction…

What was your first music making experience?
I first recorded with a friend who owned a sort of basement studio, which was great and looked very professional. He was looking for some musicians to test his studio and there I was, meeting him and the making my first recording. Before that I've done some very lousy recordings on my old home computer… really not good.. But it's the intent that counts! J

What is your current equipment?
A Mac book pro computer,  a Lexicon basic sound card, a microphone, 1 electro acoustic guitar and 2 classical guitars, 1 electric guitar, a synth player, headphones, …

Are you self-taught or did you have lessons?
I've had lessons on the saxophone and am self thought guitarist, recently I've been visiting a singing teacher.

If you had an unlimited equipment budget what would be on your shopping list?
Hmm, I d get some great monitors and headphones, a stationary Mac comp. with the appropriate software, I'd get a better guitar,…

Do you use the same equipment live as you do when in a studio?
No, when working in the studio I work with a producer and he brings loads of equipment. When performing live I use guitars and microphones. Now as I m forming a band all this will change and we ll need more equipment and musicians to get the best sound.

Do you have a set routine when writing and recording or does it depend on each track and the inspiration?
It pretty much depends on the track. Usually I d be working on an idea that seems promising and then try to push it up to a higher level, dismantle it

Would you sign with a major record company?

Do you have any new recordings planned?
Yes, I plan to record some songs in Slovenian language and with some artists from where I come from. I m also in discussing the new album recording with my producer, but I ll wait for the right time, for everything to be ready.

How much involvement do you have with the arranging and production of the songs when recording?
The production is mostly the producers work, I write the lyrics and melody, and sing. Then usually the songs change during the process of recording. The arrangements are to be discussed. Some songs therefore change drastically, and some stay very much the same as they were written. It s always an agreement between me and the producer.

Is the production side of things something you’d like to get involved more in the future, maybe working with other artists?
I like to form songs and am learning more and more about what makes a song work and what doesn’t. So far I can give an opinion on weather a song s working or not. But there is plenty to learn and you learn with time and through experience…
I d want to work also with other artist why not…

Do you find the process of recording enjoyable and does it get easier the more you do?
It is enjoyable but it is also hard work!
It s not that you can quit in the middle. It is something you something have to struggle with to get the best results and patience is needed. The more skilled you get, the  easier it gets and the better results you obtain.

Do you try to capture your ‘live’ sound on recordings or do you think that the ‘live’ sound and recorded sound should be different experiences for your fans?
The live sound on the recent album recordings is going to be different. I just think it has to be very well done, than it doesn’t matter so much if there is a difference in the sound. But the sound has to be great and the performance as well.
I like to perform in acoustics as well as with the whole band and would want to make remixes with a skilled Dj – to get an even more electro, psychadelic dance groove

Do you have any favourite tracks on your album?
Yes, I like very much Its meant to be and Morning session, If you were me it s also a good track!

Do you write songs/tracks only about personal experiences?
Many song s carry a spiritual message as I want to address the listener and convey a message. I d say that some of the songs have really powerful messages that one would want to consider in his life or way of living. Sometimes it seems a bit strange to always preach through the songs, but that’s how I feel about music at this stage. There for I encourage people to keep looking for what they wish, to talk with their hearts and love their souls, to stand up and come out and speak up their thoughts to the world as they must follow the path they were given in this lifetime…

Do you find song writing easy or difficult?
It is something that comes natural.. and it is enjoyable…it s a communication…

Is there anyone who you would like to collaborate with on writing songs or performing?
I'd want to cooperate with artist I feel a connection with, right now these are the people around me… but as I m going to meet other musicians around the planet I d want to work with them if we both feel like it is a good idea and can make a good outcome.
